How do you feel about prosperity? What are your beliefs about money? Do you feel entitled to earn what might be considered a good living? These are questions that you may ask yourself whether you are working for someone or are self-employed. They are questions that arise no matter what profession you are in or what kind of job you have. In some health professions, such as massage therapy, this can be a sensitive and seemingly contradictory subject. Massage therapists continually give of themselves through their work and often find it difficult to receive. In part this may be because many massage therapists come to the field of holistic health because of a kind of spiritual calling. This spiritual calling often includes the role of a caregiver as we try to help our clients put balance back into their lives. In seeing ourselves as a caregiver to others, we may find that we forget to take care of the caretaker.
But you are just as human as your clients. You need to be aware of your needs whether they are physical, psychological - or financial. As a massage therapist you already know that balance of body and mind is important. Financial stability and prosperity can help create and maintain balance in your life which can, in turn, help you to be more effective in your practice and your ability to help others.
Look at your own beliefs about money. Do they help or hinder your ability to be successful? Perhaps you need to re-examine your attitude about prosperity. Spirituality and monetary success are not necessarily mutually exclusive values. Stress brought on by the inability to pay your bills can take its toll on you and ultimately affect how you relate to your clients.
