Classic clothes are great when you want to dress for success, but with the new spring colors arriving in the stores, why not add a splash of color for a bit of cheer? You'll still be dressing for success, but with panache!
This season features delicious shades of foods and flowers, from a soft mauve called spring crocus, to a buttery yellow color called freesia, to a yummy looking green called daiquiri green.
What's the best way to use these colors to dress for success? Here are 8 ways to add a splash of spring color to suit your personal style.
1. Go to your favorite stores and see what colors they are showing. Take a few samples to a well-lit mirror, and hold them up next to your face, one at a time. Which ones highlight your face? Those are the colors that will make you look refreshed. Which ones make you look tired? Put them back on the rack, or buy an accessory in that color if you love it. But don't wear it next to your face.
2. Narrow it down to one or two new colors, for now. Then think about which colors will coordinate best with the wardrobe you already have. There's no point in buying a new color and having to buy more clothes because it clashes with everything you have.
3. Try going small by adding a scarf in your favorite new color.
4. If it's a pink or red shade, try to coordinate it with your lip color or nail color.
5. Start small with the new color by buying a camisole to wear under a business-like suit or jacket.
6. Splurge on shoes in your new favorite color. You can pair colorful shoes in snorkel blue or rococo red with a neutral dress in a navy, black or soft brown.
7. Use your fresh new color to highlight your best features. You can use it in a necklace to add brightness to your face, or on your waist to show off your slim figure.
8. Keep it fun. If you love a color but it's not what you normally wear, carry it in an accessory such as a clutch bag. You'll have the fun of the color, without a big commitment.
