I scoff at the notion! I agree wholeheartedly that a day getting pedicures and manicures can be just what the soul requests. Seriously, who does not enjoy a French manicure once in awhile? However, I have a secret. Worm guts under the fingernails can be just as enjoyable. Fishing, casting, baiting, luring are what this princess is all about. I find the quickest and easiest way to start chipping away at my weekly stress mountain, is to get my pole, find my worms and cast away. I will not say that fishing dominates my life to the point that I have that bumper sticker that reads, "A bad day at fishing is better than a good day at work". I just choose my moments. To be honest, I do have a magnet on my fridge that says it, what of it?
I'm your typical blonde (true), blue eyed woman that loves being pampered. I am not ashamed to admit that I have to buy the Clinique toner just to get the free tote. I am also that woman who loves to watch fishing shows, hunts at night for Night crawlers, and gets a little pissy if someone is in my favorite spot. I did get up at four a.m. after all. Isn't that early enough? I know all my fishing friends out there understand what I mean. I am the woman that does not mind at all carrying my tackle box, my poles, my folded up chair, my backpack, my old paint bucket. I am also that girl who does not mind carrying my bags of goodies from my favorite store. I think you get the picture. pedicute I get all the funny looks, the questioning glances, and the smirks as I saunter up the dock. In time, these old timers come around. Year after year, I go through the same thing, as I choose new spots to hone my skills. I can almost hear what they are saying to themselves. What is Barbie doing here fellas? Well, I should not go that far. As I said though, they usually come around. I have made many new friends at my fishing spots, and man have I learned a lot. It is the best free education around as I am schooled by each new angler that I meet. Who needs a book? I prefer fishing magazines anyway.pedicur
Fishing for me all goes back to the wonderful summers I spent with my Grandfather in Colorado. He and I would fish the Dolores River. We would drive up to Telluride and we would hike out to the remotest of spots. He and I are fishing soul mates. He taught me about fish, fishing, and being calm. He invited me into his world of serenity. Fishing for my Grandfather is a way to heal from World War II. His favorite spots make his mind forget for a little while. It should go unsaid that he sought out these moments often. He was a lucky man; my Grandmother enjoyed his love of mountain fresh air, still lakes, and the occasional moose sighting. He taught me how to be still, how to be patient, and how to be happy even if I did not get a bite. He gave me the gift of respect for nature (although I will admit, I did not speak to him for a week after I found out that he hunted dear, I was only 11 at the time). pedicurw He made it clear that if you do not intend to eat it, release with a gentle heart. I am a lucky girl.pedicuree
I have three nieces who have shown some interest in the fine sport of fishing. I take them out each spring. We do not bother with those starter poles. We thumb our noses at a Dora the Explorer pole. We want an open cast, and line that we can see. These girls do not fool with bobbers. Its fun and sun for them now. I love that. I know that as they grow up, they will reap the benefits of a no stress day at the lake. I know that when opening day is around the corner they will be cleaning their tackle boxes. Every January they will be wrapping their fishing license in aluminum foil and sticking it in a plastic baggie. That baggie will lovingly be taped to the inside of their tackle boxes. The old timers will ruminate over their presence at their spots. By the end of the day, they will be old friends. The legacy will live on.pedicurr
